CVA (then Ilion) High School graduate Carrie Lenarcic Firestone will be traveling to Baton Rouge this weekend to receive the prestigious Louisiana Book Award-Middle School Category.

The book-The First Rule of Climate Club-is her fourth and  available in paperback. She’s about to finish her fifth.

Her trip includes serving on several panel and visiting a school (students wanted to meet a real author).

First Rule has been purchased by several school districts for distribution to their middle school students.

After graduating from high school. Firestone received degrees from William Smith College and Columbia University.

Presently, the social activist resides in Avon, Connecticut with her husband, Dr. Michael Firestone, and daughters Emily and Lauren.

Her parents, Dr. Faye Eichholzer and Ray Lenarcic taught English and History respectively at HCCC.
